What does your ideal self look like

coming out to a new world?

How do you express yourself through skating?

It’s the one time I don’t feel like I have to express anything, I just am. I don’t think about my sexuality or any difficulties I have in my life. I just feel happy and nothing more. Skateboarding reminds me to chill out.

What are you looking forward to when the whole world opens back up?

The personal connections I’ll be able to make in person at the skateboard meetups. I’m still very active online but nothing will ever match listening to everybody’s laughter around you when somebody lands their first trick.

What changes in the world do you hope to see as it does open back up?

The only thing my brain can focus on in the world is our community of skateboarders and how to bring happiness into others’ lives. This past year has been very triggering and brought a lot of pain so for now I’ll be focusing on my community.

What does your new
self look like?

“I already exist as a
piece of art.

What new creative pursuits do you have for this next stage?

A team of queer skate bosses. It’d just be cool to have my main crew of people so when I’m away from New York, they can continue the meetups here. It won’t just only be me. Just be all of my people. We could just all grow together.

Why do you use Squarespace?

I get to be in control. Squarespace made it easy to be in control.

What do you wish would change in the skate world (if anything)?

I wish I could change cis men’s ideas on queer/women’s meetups because they’re always complaining about us not being inclusive even though we love them and just need time for ourselves every once in a while.

About Briana

Briana King is the epitome of the modern-day Renaissance woman. She is au naturel, she is as creative as she is kind, and without hesitation she uses her platforms to bring equity to spaces where it is most needed. She was born in East Los Angeles and moved to Australia at the tender age of eighteen, and she spends much of her time these days commuting between Los Angeles and New York City, and wherever else duty calls.

The diversity of her experiences as a community organizer, fashion model, musician, skateboard ambassador and actress, as well as her broad worldview, weave together seamlessly into the fabric of a well-informed global leader. At only 28 years old, it is clear that Ms. King will be raising the bar for years to come.

“The most important thing for me was to take care of something else besides myself during that time. So I have like fifty plants now.“
